What is Burdock Root?
This immune-boosting, detoxifying power herb is classified as a biennial and is scientifically known as Arctium. Flowering from July through October, during August the rosettes of burdock play an essential role for bees, providing nectar and pollen while the bees wait for goldenrod to bloom. Native to Asia and Northern Europe, Burdock Root has also been growing in the United States for about half a century. It was traditionally used in holistic medicine for a plethora of issues affecting the body.
The most common way form in which it was administered was to cook it without peeling since the veggie has so many nutrients in its skin. Today, it's used for similar reasons, but people have found so many new ways to get this into the body. It can be pickled and even used in Japanese cuisine and sushi, known as gobo, but the most common way to get this root of vitality into your body is through a warm, tasty cup of organic tea.
